(mid-tempo 6/8 folk/country) 2:11– explores how what we believe with all our might – no matter how futile – can get us through life.
This song has been haunting my pile of ‘unfinished songs’ for years and only because a couple of words felt wrong. Th first verse was all about the way true believers are so sure of THEIR truth no matter how much evidence to the contrary but I wanted it to be about more than that so explored other ways we hang on to beliefs and hopes and wishes even though they may never come. It’s what gets us up in the morning but it could also be keeping us from actually finding what’s real. It’s intentionally ambiguous.
