lyrics

Rhyme or Reason
© December 2004

The ice on which we’re treading has never seemed so thin
As we wage another war – the kind that we can never win
While innocent lives gets caught up in our tail spin

The planets never seemed to me to be so misaligned
These arrogant ideologues are fighting crime with crime
For those we seek to defend, what will we leave behind?

So we dig for the reason and cry out for the rhyme
While they pick another fight just to prove one more time
How strong and almighty they think that we are
When the truth is how far have we come, how far?

To me, few things are more patriotic than an open mind
But there’s no getting through to them for their faith is truly blind
And when it comes to God they think they have the only direct line

So we dig for the reason make a plea for the rhyme
While they pile on the rhetoric just to prove one more time
How powerful and righteous they think that they are
And I wonder how far have we come, how far? How far?

…will we go into this black hole of chain reactions?
And to what end? How will it end?
When will it end? Is there no end?

If the song remains the same there comes a point when we don’t hear
We just jump up on the wagon over some misguided fear
But the way out of this mess could not be any less clear

So we dig for the reason say a prayer for the rhyme
They use weapons of distraction just to prove one more time
That we’re nothing at all like they think that we are
And I wonder how far will they go? How far? How far? Etc…
